Question by Titantic: How do I get my dog to stop jumping the fence?
My dog is a nearly seven month old black lab mix. We live in the suburbs, and all the houses have fenced in backyards. These fences are about three feet tall. My dog, Kipper jumps the fence into other people’s yards. He only does this when we take the other dog out of the yard by himself, and sometimes when we are not home. The other dog does not do this.

Is there anyway to train Kipper out of jumping the fence without the use of electronic equipment?
We cannot make the fence higher, use an electric fence, or use an electric collar.

Is it legal to make changes to our fence without our neighbor’s permission?

Question by Alex: Is it legal to make changes to our fence without our neighbor’s permission?
We flipped the top pieces of the fence up-side-down so the metal would stick up and be sharp.
The neighbors dog is this vicious giant bulldog and tries to jump over, and he won’t make any changes so its safer… =P

Is it legal to do that to the fence without his permission?

Check the codes of your municipality…any changes may need a permit and in these neighbor squabbles, rest assured he will call and complain to the city on what may be a possible code violation.

Question by Corey R: If my neighbors barking dog makes it over the fence can I shoot the dog?
I live in California and have two small children. The people behind us just moved in and build a dog run up against the bordering fence. They also placed the dog house against the fence and the dog is trying to get over to my yard.

These dogs bark & growl all day long. If they make it through the fence or over the fence. Do I have the right to shoot the dogs?

If you are in legitimate fear for your or your children’s lives, then yes.

But perhaps you should contact someone who can help before it comes to that.
