Question by Jesse P: Are newly brought home rats normally nervous, scared, or anxious?
I just brought home two new pet rats yesterday, and neither of them like being picked up. When I reach my hand down to try to lift them up, they just dash away. Once I succeed in picking them up, however, they are fine, and crawl all over me. Will this nervousness go away as they gradually get to know me? Or will it stay?
Also, if anyone knows what some good treats would be for rats, lemme know!
Also, what are some ways I can get my rats to trust me? Thanks!

Dont worry! they will be fine, it will go away in at least a 2 weeks. give them lots of treats (1 tbsp of veggies a day, sometimes a little fruit, occasional pizza crust stuff like that) so they like you : )
here are some great little recipes:
to get them to trust you, lay your hand in the cage with a treat in your palm. once they take the treats, they are trusting you. gently pick them up and talk to them softly, pet them slowly….
EDIT: dont chase them with your hand or make sudden movements! this will scare em.
